The unofficial start to the college football season comes when sportsbooks start tossing up props and early odds. That includes season win totals for some of the NCAA’s top programs. While kickoff is still a month and a half out, here are some of the most notable season win totals on the board:
Alabama Crimson Tide (Season win total: 10)
The defending national champs don’t have the highest win total on the board, which may surprise some. But given the depth of the SEC and just how challenging that conference is week in and week out, it wouldn’t be a shocker if the Tide dropped a regular season matchup or two. That said, the Over is juiced at -145 with the Under paying plus money at +115, so oddsmakers have plenty of confidence Alabama can run the table again in the SEC.
Clemson Tigers (Season win total: 10.5)
Thanks to the softness of the ACC schedule, the Tigers boast the biggest win total in the country. Clemson, which returns plenty of talent from last year’s national championship runner-up, opens the season at Auburn as more than touchdown chalk. Beyond that, a trip to Florida State on Oct. 29 looks to be the Tigers’ only true challenge of 2016. However, books have the Under set at -125 with the Over coming back at -105.
Washington Huskies (Season win total: 9)
One of the most popular teams among wiseguys this summer has been Washington. There is plenty of potential with the Huskies, and the media has picked Chris Petersen’s program to finish second in the Pac-12 North. Quarterback Jake Browning and RB Myles Gaskin give UW a dynamic attack on offense, and a bevy of budding talents on the defensive side of the ball could book the Huskies a date on New Year’s Day. Right now might be the best time to bet the Huskies’ win total with both Over and Under priced at -115.
Tennessee Volunteers (Season win total: 9.5)
Another team picking up plenty of momentum at the sportsbook is Tennessee. Early lines and props have all drawn positive action from football bettors, which is why the Over 9.5 is listed at -125. The Volunteers have some tough tests early on with home stands against Virginia Tech, Florida and Alabama all before Halloween. But Tennessee’s home stretch is back loaded with cupcakes opponents, meaning an Over ticket could hold value right until the season finale at Vanderbilt.
