The Charlotte Hornets will face the Miami Heat on the road for the second game in a row. Both of these teams are underperforming and have had difficult starts to the season.
The Hornets are currently on a seven-game losing streak. They are sitting in last place in the Eastern Conference, and their 3-10 record is the third-worst in the league.
This is not entirely surprising, as the Hornets are without Cody Martin, LaMelo Ball, and Gordon Hayward.
They also released Miles Bridges last week after he was convicted of a domestic violence charge. It is safe to say Charlotte is not in great shape right now, and their record reflects that.
The Heat are also not playing well, even though they have a healthier squad than the Hornets. They are 5-7 and sitting well outside of the Playoff picture in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo are performing well, but their offense often struggles to score. In an age where teams are constantly scoring 115 or more points a game, the Hornets are only averaging 108.8 points.
This low-scoring output is largely in part to point guard Kyle Lowry. Lowry plays over 35 minutes a game but only shoots 40.2% from the field.
The Heat beat the Hornets in overtime 117-112 when they played on Thursday. The Heat built an 11-point lead heading into the fourth, but the Hornets outscored them 31-19 in the ninth.
The overtime period was pretty uneventful, and the Heat outscored the Hornets 13-8. Jimmy Butler led all players with 35 points and went 11-19 from the field and 13-15 from the free-throw line.
This game may not be the most exciting, but I expect the Heat to win. They have home-court advantage and a significantly healthier team. In addition, Jimmy Butler has a lot of momentum from his 35-point game and will likely have another big game.
If the Hornets were healthier and playing at home, I would pick them to win. However, they are playing short-handed and facing a Heat team that has been dominant in the past. The Heat can and will turn it around. It is just a matter of time.
My Prediction: Heat 114, Hornets 108
