The Ottawa Senators will travel to Boston to face the Bruins for the third time this season.
The Senators beat the Bruins in their first two matchups, but I do not know if they will have as much success this time around.
The Senators are seven points out of the Playoff race with 56 points, and the Bruins are the best team in the NHL with 87 points.
As I write this, the Senators are yet to play their Sunday game against the St. Louis Blues. Their most recent game was against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Senators lost a heartbreaker 4-3 in overtime. Ottawa amassed a 3-1 lead early in the third period, but a Sam Lafferty shorthanded goal and Patrick Kane goal tied it up and sent it to overtime.
The Senators failed to score in the overtime period, but the Blackhawks put a puck in the back of the net with a little over two minutes left.
The Bruins are currently playing against the New York Islanders, but their previous full game was against the Nashville Predators on the road.
The Bruins shut out the Predators 5-0, but their scoring was not immediate. Boston only scored one first period goal but followed up with three second period goals.
In case that was not enough, Boston scored one additional goal in the third period as the icing on the cake.
I realize the Senators won their previous two games against the Bruins, but I do not expect that to happen today. Ottawa is playing on the road and performs a little worse there.
They have an 11-12-2 away record but a 15-12-2 home record. In addition, the Bruins are playing at home and really step it up in Boston. They perform well everywhere they go, but they have only lost two games in regulation at home this season.
Some may find my argument to be weak, so I will add this. The Senators are playing on Sunday, but the Bruins are coming off a day of rest.
Boston will dismantle this mediocre Ottawa team.
My Prediction: Boston 5, Ottawa 2
