Jaguars are primed for a top-two seed in the AFC next season | News Article by handicapper911.com

The Jacksonville Jaguars shocked the football world in the 2022-2023 NFL season.

Under second-year Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Jags offense caught fire toward the end of the season, winning their last five regular season games to drag the team to a 9-7 record and claiming the throne to the AFC South Division.

In that stretch, Jacksonville averaged over 29 points per game.

Their astounding success only continued in the postseason, as they pulled off a miraculous upset over the Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert in the Wild Card Round, edging their playoff opponent out by just one point.

In the next round, they came within one score of defeating the eventual champion Kansas City Chiefs and two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes.

Had they been able to down the Chiefs, who knows what would have happened in a potential matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals or even the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, the Jags enter the 2023-2023 NFL season with high expectations and a road paved for them to repeat as AFC South champions and possibly even earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.

They came away from the 2023 NFL Draft with more weapons and protection for their franchise quarterback, something they desperately needed in the previous postseason.

With Anton Harrison out of Oklahoma protecting the edge, Brenton Strange picking up blitzes and running routes, and Tank Bigsby splitting carries with Travis Etienne Jr., the Jags might just have one of the best offenses in the league with Lawrence slinging the ball.

That’s before even factoring in Calvin Ridley Jr. who should be looking to make a loud return after a questionable season-long suspension.

Aside from their offseason additions, Jacksonville’s schedule in the 2023-2024 season also has them positioned to make some serious noise next year.

Winning the division last season gave them a tough slate including the Buffalo Bills and Kansas Chiefs, but most of their non-division opponents should make for some relatively easy win padding.

The Jaguars should be able to sweep the entire NFC East with little resistance, and their AFC South rivals should provide quite a few breezy victories as well.

Drawing the AFC North was a tough pill to swallow, but the Jaguars should be able to at least split that division if they want to be taken serious as contenders anyhow.

If the Jags’ Cinderella run in the last two months of last season was legitimate, they could very well obtain one of the top two seeds in the AFC.
