The National Football League MVP race is starting to take serious shape. After this week, Josh Allen’s hold on the lead has lightened up.
The Bills were favored to by 10.5 points, and Josh Allen had his worst game of the year against the Jets. However, there wasn’t a player other than Joe Mixon who went off this week, so his lead hasn’t completely diminished.
Currently, it looks like a three-man race, with the Quarterbacks of the best three teams in the league at the top, those being Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.
Going into week 9 the Bills were a heavy favorite when they were visiting the New York Jets on Sunday. The Bills played a brutal offensive game, a lot of that was due to the Jets’ stout defense, but some were due to Josh Allen struggling
He threw for 205 yards and 2 interceptions. He did do his thing on the ground, but it wasn’t enough to get the job done. He is also potentially dealing with an elbow injury, which is going to open up the door even more. He is still the betting favorite, but the race has closed.
Patrick Mahomes is continuing to do what Patrick Mahomes does. He and the Chiefs were able to sneak out a win against the Titans at home. Mahomes threw the ball 68 times on Sunday Night, and he was the only threat on the ground as well.
Mahomes led the touchdown drive to get within two on the ground, and he found the end zone with his legs for the two-point conversion as well.
Jalen Hurts is also lurking as he is the leader of the only undefeated team in the NFL. He is coming off a solid performance on Thursday night football against the lowly Texans. Hurts has been as efficient as any player in the NFL.
He can get the job done through the air and the ground. He has 12 touchdowns in the air and 6 rushing touchdowns. These three have a nice lead, but others have a chance to make it a race.
Other Quarterbacks that are still in play, are Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Geno Smith, and Tua Tagovailoa. Lamar just put on a solid performance on Monday night football.
He did what he had to do to win a game with a lot of their skill players out with injuries. Geno has had some impressive moments but would take a miracle to get this done. I would put money on Tua at this moment. He has the most explosive weapons, and if he stays healthy has the opportunity to have some great wins.
