No. 7 Michigan State vs. No. 3 Kansas State: Thursday, March 23 | 6:30 p.m. | TBS
Now here’s something of an odd couple. Jerome Tang is in his first year as a head coach, Tom Izzo is in his 15th Sweet 16. This will be Tang’s third NCAA tournament game. It will be Izzo’s 79th.
January, February, Izzo, April… He has done it again. Tom Izzo has taken a mediocre Michigan State team to his 15th Sweet 16 since he has taken over the Spartan Program. This will be Tom Izzo’s 79th NCAA Tournament game.
They have been able to ride some very strong guard play so far in the tournament and play some sturdy defense. Against #2 seeded Marquette this weekend, they kept Tyler Kolek to 2-8 shooting and 6 turnovers.
An effort like that is going to be needed to take down this Kansas State team, led by Markquis Nowell. This game features two NYC Point guards, who were under-recruited and are taking their teams to the Mecca, with Nowell and Tyson Walker for Michigan State. Walker is averaging 17.5 in the tournament so far and hasn’t turned the ball over.

Kansas State is led by Jerome Tang, who is making his first appearance as a Head Coach in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats are led by aforementioned Markquis Nowell, who has assisted or made 37 of the 58 field goals for Kansas State in this tournament, and former Florida Gator Keyonta Johnson.
The Wildcats are one of the great stories of the year with Johnson coming back from nearly dying on the floor in 2020. Nowell, is also one of the smallest players in America, but he is able to dominate in many different ways and controls the pace.
I see this game coming down to coaching. If Tang can hang with Izzo in this one, then the little apple of Manhattan Kansas could be a future star in the making. Ill take the Spartans.

Remember the worries about the Vols, with Zeigler out and staggering down the stretch, losing seven of their last 12 games? They flexed their muscles, started banging bodies and shut down the opponents, giving up 55 and 52 points to Louisiana and Duke. Also in those games, 31 of their 44 field goals came off assists.
The mud now awaits the upstarts from Boca Raton, who had all the warriors they needed over the weekend. First, it was Nick Boyd beating Memphis in the last seconds. Then a stat line for the ages from Johnell Davis against Fairleigh Dickinson: 29 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, five steals, just one turnover against the FDU press. The Owls, who had only 16 turnovers in their two early-round games, apparently understand what they’re getting into.
