The NBA trade deadline saw plenty of big and key names move at the deadline which caused some major shifts in the odds to win the 2023 NBA Championship.
Sitting ahead of the rest at the top of the odds board are the Boston Celtics ( 310) and Phoenix Suns ( 425).
Boston has stood strong with the shortest odds all season long as their odds remained under 600 all throughout the regular season to this point.
They did make a minor, but key move at the trade deadline in acquiring Mike Muscala, a stretch big man who adds to an already elite 3-point shooting Celtics team.
In the three games that he has played with Boston since being traded, they’ve gone 2-1 and he has put up 10 points in every game.
The Phoenix Suns made arguably the biggest move at the trade deadline after trading away a package of Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges for Kevin Durant. The move made a major and immediate impact on their odds to win the championship having gone from 1900 down to the 425 they sit at now overnight.
Even before the trade, Phoenix was top-10 in both point differential ( 1.5) and points allowed per game (111.2). Not to mention, they’ve been a profitable team to bet on as well going 32-27 against the spread.
Other teams that made beneficial moves that had an impact on their odds include the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks.
Starting with the Mavs, they made a move for Kyrie Irving at the deadline and gave up next to nothing in Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith as well as picks. After trading for Irving, their odds got close to cut in half going from 3000 down to 1600 right before the All-Star break.
The Lakers were also busy at the deadline as they unloaded Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverly amongst a few others for a return of D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Mo Bamba, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Davon Sneed throughout several trades.
They were at 4700 before all of their trades and saw them drop slightly to 4500 as they are still fighting for a playoff spot.
The LA Clippers were one of the busiest teams at the deadline with three trades that brought them Mason Plumlee, Eric Gordon, and Bones Hyland. Their odds went from 1200 down to 900 heading into All-Star weekend.
The Bucks made one of the smaller moves in their trade for Jae Crowder. However, they are adding a 13-year veteran who has been to the NBA Finals twice in the last four seasons. With that, their odds stayed put but towards the top at 600.
