The devastation has officially hit for the New York Jets and all of their fans after Aaron Rodgers was ruled out for the season with a torn Achilles after playing just four snaps in their season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
With that, it now leaves the Jets to rely on Zach Wilson under center for the remainder of the season.
Despite the win over the Bills in Week 1, all of the Jets odds for the season came tumbling down. Their Super Bowl odds, which were as far down as 1400 before going into the season, have skyrocketed to 5000, their AFC Championship odds dropped from 1000 to 2500, and their odds to win the AFC East division title have doubled from 250 to 500, the third longest in the division.
Those weren’t the only odds to take a dip, their odds to make the playoffs went from -135 to 215 while their regular season win total now sits at 8.5 after opening at 9.5. Making things even worse for their win total, they’ve only gone over 8.5 wins once since 2011.
Historically though, 5000 odds to win the Super Bowl in Week 2 for the Jets is a dark place as the last two times their odds going into Week 2 have risen between 5000 and 6000, they eventually get pulled by Week 12 of the season.
With Rodgers out and Zach Wilson in, you have to think that the stock of the entire offense completely takes a hit. Considering who they have and what they added, this is a major let down with guys like Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and Dalvin Cook on the roster.
As for the immediate impact for their Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, the line originally opened at 3 points in favor of Dallas and has since shot back to 9 points.
Odds to win the Super Bowl LVIII | |||
---|---|---|---|
1 | SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS | +550 | |
2 | KANSAS CITY CHIEFS | +650 | |
3 | PHILADELPHIA EAGLES | +750 | |
4 | DALLAS COWBOYS | +850 | |
5 | BUFFALO BILLS | +900 | |
– | NEW YORK JETS | +3800 |
The main bright spot that the Jets have going for them moving on is their defense which could be argued as the best in the league.
They came away with three interceptions in Week 1 which was tied for the most in the league and also sacked Josh Allen three times. They also held Buffalo, the number two overall offense last season, to just 16 points after they averaged north of 28 ppg last season.
As for the rest of the line in their Week 2 matchup, they have 330 odds to win the game with a 39-point total.
