The Dallas Mavericks will travel north to face the Detroit Pistons. The Mavericks are having a mediocre season and in ninth place in the Western Conference.
On the other side, the Pistons are still in rebuild mode and have the worst record in the league.
The Mavericks are coming off an exhilarating 116-113 win against the Golden State Warriors. The game went down to the wire and the Mavericks led by three with 4.1 seconds left.
The Warriors inbounded the ball at halfcourt and set up a play for Klay Thompson. Thompson got open behind the three-point line but missed the shot. Luka Doncic had an excellent game and finished with a 41-point, 12-rebound, 12-assist triple-double. Doncic also had four steals. Tim Hardaway Jr. also contributed and had 22 points in 31 minutes.
The Pistons are coming off a crushing 140-110 defeat against the New York Knicks. New York took an eight-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Pistons played this game without Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey and looked lost. No Piston scored more than 19 points, and Detroit finished with 16 turnovers.
This game will be closer than the Pistons’ previous one, but Detroit will lose again. It is evident that Detroit’s rebuild will continue to take time, and this will not be their season.
Detroit’s rebuilding roster is not the only reason they will lose. The Pistons will likely play this game without Jaden Ivey, Cade Cunningham, and Nerlens Noel. The loss of Noel is not monumental, but the losses of Ivey and Cunningham are significant.
Those two guards account for much of Detroit’s offense and ball movement. If the Pistons do not figure out a way to replicate their offense without them, they will be in for a long night.
It is also worth mentioning that the Mavericks’ previous victory affects the chances of them winning this game. Dallas beat the Golden State Warriors in a dramatic fashion and has momentum from that. The Mavericks’ locker room is likely now full of positive energy, which will contribute to them performing well.
My Prediction: Mavericks 125, Pistons 114
Detroit will be as healthy as they have been in awhile but I have no idea what to expect out of this team from night to night. Can they stop the Lukas?
