The #3 Alabama Crimson Tide is heading north to Knoxville to take on the #6 Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, for what has long been scheduled for the “Third Saturday in October.
This game has more interest than the last 15 years, as Tennessee hasn’t beaten the Tide in the last 15 efforts. This is the first time that both of these teams have met as undefeated teams since 1989.
Alabama is coming off of their worst performance of the year, without defending Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, against a struggling Texas AM team. AM had a play on the two-yard line to win the game as time expired.
Tennessee however, is coming off a beat down at LSU to the tune of 40-13. These two results have caused Knoxville to be gearing up for this game like we haven’t seen in a very long time.
This game hinges on the back of Bryce Young being able to play. GOAT, Nick Saban, says that he is hopeful that Young is going to suit up and play, but a sprained shoulder is tough for an athletic QB. Jalen Milroe will get the nod if there is no Young. He is uber athletic, but doesn’t have the steady hand that Young has and Saban loves.
Milroe has the ability to get it done, but if a home game against an unranked AM team made him uneasy, heading to Knoxville for the CBS afternoon kick is going to be hell for a young QB.
The Tennessee Volunteers offense is top ten in passing at 340.4 yards/game. Hendon Hooker has seen it all in his long career that started at Virginia Tech, and led him to Tennessee. The Volunteers and Josh Heupel have been dynamic this year, even without best receiver Cedric Tillman, who could return.
The elite passing offense of Tennessee will face a bit of pressure with top prospect Will Anderson Jr and young stud Dallas Turner. The strength of the Tide defense is getting after the passer, and Tennessee’s defense prides itself on stopping the run. It will be strength on strength as the Tide run the ball as well as anyone in the country, and Tennessee is allowing a strong 2.79 per carry.
This game is going to be a whole lot of fun if we get Bryce Young. It is screaming of a game that people start to question Alabama, then they show everyone that they are still here. If Tennessee is able to get out to a fast start Neyland Stadium should be ROCKING.
